COLOUR CHALLENGE

Last month we had our first Guild colour challenge. The Picture of The Month (POM) was from National Geographic’s Picture Of The Day, a beautiful undersea shot photographed by David Doubilet of National Geographic containing multiple colours to choose from.   Members can use one colour or multiple colours and can use clay directly from the package or mix their own.Beginners may want to choose a 2” disc with the colours and for more advanced clayers any item containing the colours is acceptable.  If unable to attend the monthly meetings just post your photo in the file already available under “photos” in our Yahoo group.

Those who accepted the challenge came up with some interesting combinations. Ellen Kocher wore her beautiful earings and also made a hanging container.

Nancy Quinn used canes to make a veneer sheet with her choice of colours from the pic.

I chose some pearl colours and made a couple of filigree pendants. The technique is from a Utube video by Christy.

I had been wanting to try a filigree technique since seeing Nancy Quinn’s Twinchy from our mini retreat a couple of years ago, hosted by TinaHolden in Tofino BC, on the beautiful west coast of Vancouver Island.

This month’s colour challenge is to be from a close=up of a painting by our very own Emily Carr. It will be interesting to see what members come up with at our meeting on Saturday, March 8.This always adds a little more excitement to our Show And Tell.
