Back From Horizons

Barb Alexander & Nancy Quinn

Clang Clang Clang All Aboard

I am sorry there was no blog post last weekend but I was enjoying myself at our Guild biennial retreat. Time seems to fly quickly at three day retreats such as this. Aside from our regular Guild members there were five from the Van Isle Guild and three from the Northwest Polymer Clay Guild south of the border in Seattle, Washington.

A fun start to the weekend as we boarded the “Poly Trolly” for the forty minute ride to Deep Cove and our opening reception for Horizons.

Carolyn Good's Demo and Bargello Samples
The great food and wine and a view of the all polymer art exhibit by members of the Vancouver Polyclayers and the Van Isle Guild helped top off the evening

Our Horizons instructors were Joan Tayler, who taught a version of the popular Japanese Inro. Ellen Kocher taught Manic Mokume and Carolyn Good taught her version of Bargello, giving us a choice of veneer to apply to our Inros. Olga Osnach taught a couple of face sculpture classes to apply to hand made art dolls and Jem Redlich taught a unique approach to die formed bowls. All this in three days so you can imagine we were kept busy but also had loads of fun and laughs.

So sad that the Horizons Retreat is over for another two years but now it is time to get to work on all those great techniques we have learned.

Horizons Retreat Notice

The official opening of the Chameleon Polymer Art show was well attended on Sunday at the Seymour Art Gallery. For members and friends who are not attending Horizons, our biennial polymer retreat in Vancouver, please be sure to see this great show by March 2.

A few reminders for those attending the  Horizons retreat:

We will be having our button exchange again. If you want to join in this fun exchange we recommend you make a minimum of twenty buttons.

We will also be having a Silent Auction as well as a Sale table. If you have any items you wish to sell please be sure to put your name and price tag on each item offered for sale.

Remember to bring some Show & Tell items if you wish. Sometimes this can lead to an impromptu demo as we are a curious group.

Retreat Registration begins at 4:00 PM and the Poly Trolly to our reception at the Chameleon Show leaves at 5:15 PM sharp.
